Addressing learners in a contemporary way

Today's learners place great value continuous learning opportunities, both on and off the job. They are willing to go to great lengths to develop professionally, but they also have high expectations for the courses they attend. So what can e-learning designers do to actively engage participants in the learning process and get the most out of their training offerings?

Increase the availability

Continuing education does not only take place in a classic training environment and at fixed dates. Learning content must be accessible and everywhere, online and offline, on all devices.. Participants learn better when they can determine the pace and the media themselves. Modern learning platforms offer a wide range of functions for e-learning and online training, also to supplement classroom events.

Keep it short and crisp

Focus on micro-learning for maximum learning success. Provide small tidbits of information that can be easily absorbed and immediately put into practice. Example: a short learning session every day might be just right, so learners are not overwhelmed and interest is maintained.

Personalize learning content

Participants learn in different ways and bring different levels of prior knowledge. It's virtually impossible to create a training course that fits everyone. Personalized learning paths allow you to create a targeted learning path for each participant based on their level of knowledge and skills already acquired. To do this micro-learnings can be combined into learning paths. can be created.

Nothing beats interaction

Most new information from a course is forgotten again within a month. But if you actively involve learners in training, what they learn will be remembered longer. Ask and answer questions, solve tasks, discuss and argue! In online events, use the quiz functions, forums and wikis as well as group discussions..

Provide learning resources

If you want participants to like your courses and extend what they've learned, create an area for information sharing, for digital info resources, preferably organized by topic and shareable. Modern digital learning environments offer e-portfolios, shared documents, and librariesthrough which they make relevant training materials as easily accessible as possible.

Let the games begin

Education should be fun and challenging. While it is difficult to offer real prizes in an online environment, stars, points, badges, titles and virtual trophies are also valued in the digital space. Gamification is on everyone's lips; the game instinct lurks within each of us. E-learning professionals skillfully use it in their learning arrangements.
